Abandoned Hakka Villages | Hong Kong's New Territories

Known as the “ghost villages” of the northeast New Territories, these mostly depopulated settlements were once home to a thriving agrarian Hakka community. Due to decades of displacement, migration to the city due to the industrialization of Hong Kong and recent conflicts over conservation efforts in the area, the population has declined and many villages and structures are now left abandoned and in decay.
